City Council Election Only Two Weeks Away

Posted in:

Voters in Seminole’s Ward Two will take to the polls in two weeks to decide whether to keep their current city councilor in place or seat a new one.

Incumbent Eddie Foreman is set to face Jolene Doucette, a former Seminole Police Officer, in an election slated Tuesday, Feb. 11. Foreman was appointed to the council in September 2020 and reelected in 2022.

Ward Two voters have cast their ballots at the Activity Center (322 N. 4th) in the past, but the polling place has been temporarily relocated to the Seminole Municipal Building (401 N. Main) due to renovations at the center. Polls will be open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on election day.

Two other local city council races will take place on Feb. 11. In Wewoka, Richard Ellwanger and Keith Kincade are vying for the Ward 5 council seat. In Konawa’s Ward 2, Jalean Hamilton, the city’s former mayor, is looking to unseat incumbent Sam Jolly.

Early voting in all three contests will be available at the Seminole County Election Board, 123 Mekusukey in Wewoka, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 and Friday, Feb. 7.

The Oklahoma State Election Board offers the following tips for voting: Have your valid ID ready to show poll workers. Proof of identity is required every time you vote. There are three ways to prove identity: A photo ID issued by the United States government, the State of Oklahoma, or a federally recognized tribal government; your county election board voter identification card or affidavit with provisional ballot. More information on proof of identification is available on the State Election Board website (oklahoma. gov/elections).

Do not wear or bring anything to vote that could be considered “electioneering.” “Electioneering” is advocating for or against a candidate or issue on the ballot. It is a crime to “electioneer” within 300 feet of the entrance to a polling place or in-person absentee voting site or a person who is standing in line to vote outside the polling place or in-person absentee voting site while an election is in progress.

Bring your notes. While you may not have any written material other than that provided by election officials within 300 feet of the entrance to a polling place or in-person absentee voting site or a person who is standing in line to vote outside the polling place or in-person absentee voting site while an election is in progress, it is acceptable to bring notes or a marked sample ballot to assist you with the voting process. Notes or sample ballots should be kept out of public view until you are ready to mark your ballot.

Those with questions or who need more information should contact the Seminole County Election Board at (405) 257-2786.
