Back to School Bash Events Slated in Seminole, Konawa

It may seem like the summer vacation just got underway, but the reality is, back to school time is just around the corner. In fact, most Seminole County students will return to the classroom in just two weeks.

To help parents/guardians and students prepare for the new school year, two “Back to School Bash” events have been scheduled in the area.

Impact Seminole, a local nonprofit, has scheduled its Back to School Bash for Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Seminole High School. A meal, haircuts and sports physicals will be offered at no charge and backpacks will be given away to those in attendance. For more information, visit Impact Seminole’s Facebook page.

Konawa’s bash will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Konawa Veterans Park.

Activities include:

• Blood Drive (Donors will receive a T-shirt)

• Drawing for a $25 cash prize for blood donors

• Wewoka IHS Mobile Unit: Immunizations available (must have an active chart and parent present)

• Seminole County Health Nurses: Vaccines for kids ages 2 months -18 yr

• Synergy: Free physicals available for sports participation

• Limited Car Seat Installations: Child and parent must be present to receive a free car seat Free haircuts will be offered and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand with “McGruff the Crime Dog.” Free refreshments (limited supply) will also be available.

In addition to the bash, Konawa JOM has a supplies disbursement event scheduled for Thursday, July 31 from 6-8 p.m. in the junior high lobby. Recipients must be an enrolled JOM student with a tribal card or CDIB on file with Konawa Public Schools. For those currently not on the list, supplies will be available at the open house on Aug. 5.

The first day of class for Konawa and Seminole Public Schools is Thursday, Aug. 7.
