Arrest Made in Hillcrest Shooting

Posted in:

One arrest has been made and another remains possible in connection to a drive by shooting at a Seminole apartment complex last month.

Daegan Angel was arrested May 20 and booked into the Seminole County Jail on charges of discharging a firearm into a dwelling and first-degree burglary. As of press time, formal charges had not been filed.

On April 12, several shots were fired into one of the units of the Hillcrest Apartment complex on Grisso Drive. No injuries were reported, but at least two bullet holes were visible in the window of a unit located on the bottom floor in the middle of the complex. A witness reported hearing what sounded like gunfire from an automatic weapon at the time of the incident.

Multiple citizens reported a heavy law enforcement presence, including an armored vehicle, in the neighborhood surrounding the apartments on April 15. According to police, a “high risk” search warrant was being served at a residence on Sims Place. Police Chief Jon Withers confirmed at the time that the warrant was in connection with the shooting incident.

“I saw four police cars rolling slowly through the neighborhood like they’re looking for someone,” a witness said of the April 15 search. “I saw them at the porch of one house talking to some folks and looking through the trunk of a car at another house. I just hope we’re not having gang problems in the neighborhood. I guess that’s wishful thinking these days.”

Police say another arrest is pending in relation to the shooting.
