Of course, that was an era before every breakfast cereal, motor oil, or obscure mortgage company was sponsoring its own personal bowl game. But Sunday emphasized a growing trend with a number of teams saying ‘thanks, but no thanks’ to bowl berths on Sunday. The final count included at least 10 teams that turned down bowl berths.

SOONER WIRE - It’s been a fantastic season for Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners, who went 10-2, including a 6-2 mark in SEC play, to earn their first College Football Playoff appearance since 2019. 10 Oklahoma Sooners earned All-SEC honors on Tuesday as voted on by the league’s coaches. It was the second-highest number in the league this season, led by three All-SEC first-team selections.

THUNDER WIRE - A winning machine on the floor, the only suspenseful parts of the SGA-less OKC’s visit to Utah happened during stoppages. The first two involved pyrotechnics going off at the top of the shot clock. The third happened less than a minute into the second half. As a shot clock and game clock malfunction caused a 15-minute delay.
