DEAR ABBY: My sister is cheap. She’s also not good at choosing gifts for people. Often, the things she gives are worse than if she’d done nothing at all.

It really is innocent looking, because it looks just like wet pavement. But it can be dangerous as a rattlesnake. And just like that reptile, it strikes when you least expect it, with the intent to cause you a lot of pain and destruction.
While working with recycling Christmas cards for 7 nursing homes (about 450) I found one sent to me by Dom and Kristen Lindner that had this Scripture, Psalm 126:3 on the front: ‘The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.’ It seemed an appropriate topic for today’s column.
According to National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) tests, only 23 percent of Oklahoma fourth grade students were proficient or advanced in reading in 2024. Put another way, three-out-of-four students are not proficient readers meeting grade-level expectations.

DEAR ABBY: My husband and I discussed our 25th anniversary and mentioned Hawaii as a possibility. He reached out to his brother and sister-in-law for suggestions, since they have visited Hawaii twice and we never have.
DEAR ABBY: My sister has always been a liar and a manipulator. She has lost jobs because of her toxic behavior. Our parents passed away 20 years ago, and ever since, she has trashed their memory to anyone who will listen.
