Read moreAs a first-year teacher at Arthur Elementary School last year, Sarahi Garcia-Acosta knew it was important for her classroom to be equipped with resources and materials to make learning exciting for her students. While the school was able to provide some support and Garcia- Acosta paid for some new classroom supplies out of her own pocket, she was determined to give her students the learning environment they deserved, and that meant she would have to get creative with funding her ideas. Garcia- Acosta posted a special project on DonorsChoose, a classroom crowdfunding platform, requesting counters, or math manipulatives, in fun shapes like dinosaurs, butterflies and trucks that would help her students grasp mathematical concepts in an interactive and hands-on way. As part of its commitment to furthering education efforts across its service area, OG&E helped fund the project, and now all Garcia- Acosta’s students have access to these important educational resources.

Her donation included more than 950 pounds of pork product, 200 pounds of shelf-stable food items and $1,000 for future pork purchases. This donation was made possible by the partnership of Tyson Foods, The Pork Group, Ben E. Keith Foods and the Oklahoma Pork Council.
