MEKUSUKEY MISSION, Seminole, Ok - On September 24, 2020 Steve Barnes became a District Court Judge for the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. With virtual proceedings in place, Judge Barnes was sworn in by the Seminole Nation’s Chief Justice, the Honorable Roger Wiley, using video teleconferencing. Also present was Chief Greg Chilcoat, Judge Barnes wife Annette, Rewalke General Council Representative Greg Votaw and Josh Carpitcher. Judge Barnes will complete the Seminole Nation’s District Court Judge team, which includes Chief District Judge the Hon. Phil Lujan, the Hon. Lisa Otipoby-Herbert and the Hon. Robert Gifford. As we have entered into our fifth full week of the Blended-Learning school calendar (In-Person, Distance, and Virtual), we are all aware that this is a time like no other for this generation, and we are getting familiar with a new pandemic vocabulary. Terms such as “rapid-testing, isolation, quarantine” and “firstlevel contact exposure.” And as we continue to follow the recommended protocols of personal protection such as wearing masks, maintaining distance from others, and handwashing, we should pause and take time to measure progress based on student learning.
