Oklahoma Baptist University held its annual awards chapel May 4 in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The University recognized outstanding seniors within its schools and divisions and also presented its four highest student awards.

A tornado that swept through Seminole County on Monday evening left a relatively minor path of destruction behind. At one point Seminole County Emergency Manager Aaron Sowder had been on a dirt road helping as a storm spotter when he saw the tornado spinning from approximately a quarter mile away shortly before 8:00 p.m. Monday morning he returned to gather damage reports from the people he had touched base with the night before while making safety checks immediately after the tornado passed through. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported, and most of the destruction was limited to the less populated rural area southwest of Seminole.

Monday, the Oklahoma Senate Agriculture and Wildlife Committee approved the appointment of Robert M. Priess, who lives near Coyle, to the Oklahoma Conservation Commission to serve a 5-year term ending June 30, 2027. He was nominated by Governor J. Kevin Stitt, and it will now go to the Senate Floor for approval. Priess was sponsored by and his nomination was carried by fellow Payne County resident and District 21 Senator Tom Dugger.
