A measure to make Oklahoma schools safer is on its way to the Senate floor after receiving unanimous approval by the Senate Appropriations Committee Wednesday. Senate Bill 100, by Sen. Dewayne Pemberton, R-Muskogee, was the result of recommendations made by the bipartisan School Safety Working Group, of which Pemberton was named chair by Senate Pro Tempore Greg Treat last fall.

Read moreThe United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced this week that Dustin Kyle Marris, age 34, of Okemah, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 282 months’ imprisonment after being found guilty by a federal jury on November 3, 2021, of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm in Indian Country; Use, Carry, Brandish and Discharge of a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence; Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine; and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Marris was sentenced to an additional 12 months’ imprisonment for Escape from Custody.
