There are many legends and traditions that have been combined to become the Saint Valentine’s Day we celebrate today. Some of them are lost in time, while others are more recent.

The Mayors’ Council of Oklahoma (MCO) and the Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) recently announced the 2023 winners of the annual “If I Were Mayor” essay contest. The essay contest provides an opportunity for 8th grade students from across Oklahoma to engage with their communities.

The rural volunteer firefighters in Seminole County are in serious need of more able-bodied men and women that can be available when needed. This includes the fire departments in Konawa, Bowlegs, Sasakwa, Strother, Cromwell and Maud.

On February 8, 2023, Arlon Cooper, age 56, of Wewoka was found guilty of Murder in the Second Degree by a Seminole County jury. He was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections for 20 years.
