Wewoka Wins the Battle of the Tigers Over Konawa

The Wewoka Tigers started their 2025 football season Friday night at home hosting the Konawa Tigers for the Battle of the Tigers.

The Wewoka Tigers protected their home field with a shutout win.

The Wewoka Tigers won the toss and elected to receive the ball, protecting the north endzone. Wewoka moved the ball on third down with a pass interference call on Konawa to move the ball down to the Konawa’s 45-yard line. Wewoka continued to move the ball on the ground with a little help of penalties. The Konawa Tigers were plagued by penalties in the first quarter.

The Konawa Tigers took over on downs at their 8-yard line. The offense made the first down on a run, but it was called back on a holding call. Konawa continued to run the ball and moved the ball close to mid field, but penalties were against the Tigers and Konawa found themselves back inside their 3-yard line. Konawa turned the ball over on downs and punted the ball.

Wewoka returner Bill Stephens was hit slightly before he received the ball at mid field, and the penalty moved the ball down to the Konawa 33-yard line.

On a fourth and three, Wewoka quarterback Ladarius Woods decided to throw the ball to the end zone and the ball was tipped by a Konawa defender, but the ball was deflected into the hands of receiver Bill Stephens for the touchdown. The twopoint conversion failed.

The Wewoka Tigers had the lead 6-0 heading into the second quarter. Wewoka had their turn of penalties in the quarter. Konawa again moved the ball on the ground but couldn’t capitalize.

Wewoka took over on offense with a little over two minutes left in quarter and started around their own 25-yard line when quarterback Woods handed the ball off to Landon Tiger and Tiger exploded up the middle for a 71-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was converted with a run by Trae Woods.

The score was 14-0 Wewoka with a little over a minute left before the half.

Konawa started at their own 35 yard-line with a minute twenty-eight seconds left in the quarter when the quarterback Moses Isaacs was sacked in the back field and Wewoka’s Ladarius Woods recovered and ran it back to the 9-yard line. On the second offensive play, Trae Woods punches the ball in for the touchdown with less than a minute left before the half. The twopoint conversion failed.

Wewoka had the lead 20-0 heading into the second half. Both teams continued to battle throughout the next two quarters but neither team lit up the scoreboard in the second half.

The Wewoka Tigers won the Battle of the Tigers on their home field with a final score of 20-0.

The Wewoka Tigers will travel to Holdenville this Friday for their next game. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.

Next up for the Konawa Tigers is a bye week (no game). Konawa will be back at home on the 12th to face Cordell. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
