Wewoka Tigers Still Alive as Lady Tigers Fall
The Wewoka Tigers and Lady Tigers started their districts playoffs at home as they took on Warner to start their playoff journey.
The Lady Tigers started the evening off and had a tough time in the game. The Warner Lady Eagles proved to be too much as the Lady Tigers fell 30-52.
The Lady Tigers did advance to regionals and faced Coalgate Thursday. Wewoka took control of the game and won 58-46. The Lady Tigers then moved on to Latta where they faced Tushka. The Tushka Lady Tigers applied more offensive pressure than Wewoka. The Wewoka Lady Tigers could not recover and fell 27-52. The Lady Tigers season was over.
The Wewoka Tiger boys also started at home against the Warner Eagles and outscored the Eagles and won 63-52. The Tigers faced Coalgate next at regionals and dominated that game with a final score of 61-43.
The Tigers had one more team to beat to win regionals and that was the home team Latta on Saturday night. The Wewoka Tigers jumped out and took the early lead and went on a 14-8 run in the first. The Latta Panthers rallied back in the second as they found their three-point range and knocked down three treys. The Tigers kept the game close and knocked down two treys of their own but trailed by the end of the period.
Wewoka was down by three heading into the third quarter. The Tigers found their momentum again as Mike Piza hit two three-point shots and helped the Tigers go on a 17-12 run as Wewoka went back on top at the end the quarter.
Both teams continued to battle into the fourth quarter. Wewoka had a two-point lead at the top of the fourth. The Tigers later had a four-point lead with just a minute left in regulation. The Panthers had a hot shot three-point shooter and closed the gap to a score of 57-54 Wewoka with 12 seconds left.
The Panthers ran the clock down and made the three-point shot at the end of the frame. Th game went into overtime with the score tied 57-57. Wewoka went back on top by four with two minutes left. The Panthers never gave up and closed the gap again within one. Latta took the lead for the first time by one with just a little over a minute left.
Wewoka regained the lead by one with seven seconds left. Latta again ran down the clock and made the winning shot. The Latta Panthers had won 64-63.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Ladarious Woods with 20 points and was four of seven from the free throw line.
Mike Piza scored 19 points, three treys and was two of four from the line.
Bill Stephens scored 16 points, two treys and was two of four from the line.

Thursday to face Colcord 2:30 p.m.
