Wewoka Tigers Lose Tough Battle in Double OT

The Wewoka Tigers hosted the Regent Prep Rams Friday night for their Senior Night game.

The Tigers and the Rams battled it out through two over times as both teams took turns leading in the game.

The Tigers have already sealed their spot in for the playoffs and the Rams needed a win for a chance to make to the playoffs.

Wewoka honored 10 football seniors, one band member senior and one cheerleader senior.

The Wewoka Tigers chose to receive the ball, but the Rams decided to kick an on-side kick and recovered the ball.

Regent Prep went on offense first to start the game. The Rams were faced with a 4th and 15 when Regent Prep decided to go for it but threw an interception. Mike Piza of Wewoka caught the pass at their 30 and ran it back to the 30 of the Rams.

There was a penalty, and it moved the Tigers back to their own 46-yard line. Wewoka went three and out and punted the ball back to the Rams.

Regent Prep moved the ball down field and scored a touchdown, but the extra point failed.

With just a little over two minutes left in the first quarter, quarterback Ladarius Woods handed the ball off to Mike Piza who ran wide right and threw the ball toward the endzone to tight end Jacob Avery at the one.

The QB Woods handed the ball off to Trae Woods for the touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

The game was tied up heading into the second quarter. The Rams again moved the ball down field through the air this time and scored their second touchdown of the evening. The two-point conversion was good.

Wewoka went back on offense and went through the air also as QB Woods connected with wide receiver Bill Stephens who caught the ball at the Rams 18-yard line for a first down. Woods kept the ball on the next play and made it inside the 5-yard line. Trae Woods punched the ball in on the next play for his second touchdown of the evening. Trae Woods also converted the two-point conversion.

The game was knotted up again, but the Rams managed to add six points before the half.

The battle continued in the third quarter and with just a little bit over a minute left in the quarter, QB Woods kept the ball and ran the ball in for the touchdown from two yards out. Woods also scored the two-point conversion.

The Tigers had the lead 22-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Regent Prep had nothing to lose and were fighting for that chance to make it to the playoffs and retook the lead with a touchdown at the top of the quarter.

With about seven minutes remaining in the game, Wewoka marched the ball down inside the Rams 5 yard line and Trae Woods scored his third touchdown to tie the game 28-28.

The Rams were not giving up and continued to make plays on offense. The clock continued to wind down inside a minute and the Rams went back through the air to move the ball inside Tiger territory and scored a touchdown with 13 seconds left in the game. Extra point was no good.

On the kickoff, Wewoka’s Bill Stephens receives the ball and runs it back to the Rams 27-yard line with one second left. A penalty helped move the ball to the 22-yard line and QB Woods throws the ball to the endzone and the ball was tipped and lands into Bill Stephens hands for the tying touchdown. The Tigers had a chance to put the game away with an extra point, but the try fell short.

At the end of regulation, the game was tied 34-34.

The game went into overtime.

The Wewoka Tigers started on offense first to begin the overtime, after a third down penalty play, the Tigers converted a pass play that resulted in a touchdown from QB Woods who pitched the ball to Bill Stephens who threw the ball to Jacob Avery. The two-point conversion failed.

The Rams had their turn on offense at the tenyard line and received a favorable penalty to move them to the two-yard line. Regent Prep scored the TD after two tries on offense, the quarterback punched the ball in to tie the game again. Their field goal attempt was blocked by Tatum Louie.

The game went into a second overtime. The Rams started on offense this time and the Tigers committed a face-mask penalty that moved the Rams to the 5-yard line. Regent Prep rushed in for the touchdown to retake the lead.

Wewoka kept in on the ground and on the second play from scrimmage, running back Mike Piza got the handoff and ran it in from 8 yards out for the touchdown. The two-point conversion failed to tie the game again.

The Regent Prep Rams won the battle in two overtimes with a final score of 48-46.

The Wewoka Tigers will now play at Fairland in their first round of the playoffs Friday night.

The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m.
