Wewoka Tigers Host Bethel Wildcats Thursday Night

The Wewoka Tigers got back into basketball action Thursday night when they took on the Bethel Wildcats after many basketball games were postponed or canceled due to the snow.

The Bethel Lady Wildcats took the early lead in the first due to penalty free throws in which the Lady Wildcats shot 10 of 11 from the line. Lady Tiger Heisel Sanchez knocked down a threepoint shot, and Aubrey Alexander scored 4 in the frame.

Bethel extended their lead in the second as they continued with their offense and the defense held the Lady Tigers to only three points scored in the quarter.

Wewoka was down by 17 points at halftime.

The Lady Tigers got back on track on offense and closed the gap a little, but the Lady Wildcats found their threepoint range in the third and knocked down two treys to keep their lead.

Wewoka tried to slow down the Lady Wildcats in the final frame, but the lead was a little out of their reach to catch up.

The Bethel Lady Wildcats won the match 56-31.

Leading the way for the Wewoka Lady Tigers was Heisel Sanchez with 7 points, two treys and was one of two from the line.

Leilani Scott scored 7 points and was three of four from the line.

The Tigers and Wildcats were next to mix it up on the court.

The Bethel Wildcats were ready to play and took the early in the first with three treys scored and twelve from the field to take a 21 to 19 run. Wewoka’s Bill Stephens and Nadim Bruner each scored 6 points to help keep the game close.

The heated battle continued in the second as Bethel kept their foot on the gas and just edged out Wewoka by four points in the quarter.

The Wewoka Tigers were down by six points heading into the third quarter.

The Tigers regrouped and fired back with Ladarius Woods scoring 12 points in the quarter and the defense holding the Wildcats to 10 points. Wewoka took the lead and led by six points heading into the final quarter.

Wewoka continued with their momentum in the fourth quarter. Woods scored nine points, and Bruner scored six points to help the Tigers offense suffocate the Wildcats.

Bethel did rally back in the quarter but could not keep up with Wewoka and fell 80-69 as the No. 5 Tigers protected their home court again.

Leading for the Tigers was Ladarius Woods with 28 points and was six of eight from the free throw line.

Bill Stephens scored 20 points and was four of four from the line.

Nadim Bruner and Mike Piza each scored 14 points on the evening.

Wewoka Tigers have a couple of home games on the 2nd and 3rd of January.

On Monday the second, the Tigers host Jones.

On Tuesday the third, the Tigers host the Varnum Whippets. Both games will start at 4 p.m. with the JV playing first followed by the Lady Tigers then the Wewoka Tigers.
