The Undefeated Seminole Chieftains Travel To Bristow in a Showdown Friday Night
In the last edition of Friday Night Lights, the Seminole Chieftains pulled off a thrilling homecoming comeback on their own field against the Lone Grove Longhorn. The 34-28 win kept Seminole undefeated at 4-0, as well as the all-too-important 1-0 start in district play. Up next for the Chieftains is their first road district ballgame, a battle with the Bristow Pirates.
Bristow has started 1-0 in district play as well, absolutely dominating Victory Christian last week, 51-28. However, the Pirates only hold a 2-2 overall record with their other win being the season opener vs non-district, Cushing, and losses against non-district opponents (at Berryhill, 31-8, and at Wagoner, 21-20).
The reason Seminole is out for revenge is because last season on the Chieftains’ homecoming, the Pirates came into town and handed the Mean Green their first loss of 2024. A 58-48 high-scoring affair that saw Bristow running back Darien Dansby (320 total yards and 7 touchdowns) and Seminole QB Dontre Garfield (470 total yards and 4 touchdowns) battle back and forth to the very end. Both of those stars have since graduated, so be on the lookout for some new faces to make an impact on both sides.
After the win against the Chieftains, Bristow would go on to finish 7-5 with a 5-2 record in district play. That was good enough for a 3rd place in the district, one spot ahead of Seminole. The Pirates would upset Plainview in round 1 before falling in a thriller to the Checotah Wildcats, 35-32, to end their 2024 playoff run.
The all-time series between the Chieftains and Pirates is the only series on Seminole’s 2025 schedule that the Chieftains trail in. These two teams first met all the way back in 1947 (a 19-0 Seminole win) and have since played 34 times, with Bristow holding a slight 18-16 advantage over the Chieftains.
Here is what Head Coach Mike Snyder had to say before the battle with Bristow, “It’s going to be a tough ballgame. They are a playoff team as well, so it’ll be another tough ballgame. We got beat up a little bit against Lone Grove, so we have got to find out who’s hurt and who’s not.”
The injuries Coach Snyder is referencing are to starters Carter Childs and Austin Smith, who both left last Friday’s contest and did not return.
The Mean Green will hope both of those guys are ready to go when the 4-0, ranked #12 in 3A Seminole Chieftains travel to take on the 2-2, ranked #7 in 3A Bristow Pirates on Friday, October 3rd. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
Other Friday night action around the county includes homecoming games for Maud (vs Sasakwa) and Bowlegs (vs Graham). In addition to contests for Konawa at Healton and Wewoka vs. Liberty. All of those kickoffs are set for 7:00 PM.
(Addendum: the Maud and Sasakwa game was moved to Thursday night)
