The Strother Yellowjackets hosted the Midway Chargers Friday night and posted a big shutout victory before a home crowd.

The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early lead posting an 8-0 score at the top of the first. Midway through the quarter, Parker Moody punched the ball in for the second touchdown of the evening and Peyton Moody converted the twopoint conversion.

The Chargers went on offense and fumbled the ball. The Yellowjackets recovered the ball and took advantage of the turnover with Mylam Defries scoring the TD just ten seconds later. Peyton Moody scored the two-point conversion.

The Yellowjackets score was now 24-0, still in the first quarter. Midway struggled again on offense and threw the ball down field and Peyton Moody intercepted the ball and ran it back for the touchdown. The twopoint conversion failed.

Midway settled down a little bit and made some big plays but could not convert them into points on the score board. The Chargers were down by 30 at the start of the second quarter.

The Yellowjackets went back on offense after the Chargers punted the ball. Strother moved the ball down field and Parker Moody punched the ball in for the TD and Mylam Defries converted the two points.

The Strother defense held the Chargers again as Midway went three and out. Yellowjacket Noah Glasgow got in on the action and scored a rushing touchdown from approximately 10 yards out. The two-point conversion failed. With about four minutes left in the first half, Glasgow again found the endzone to put the game out of reach for the Chargers with another touchdown. Defries converted the two points.

On the next offensive drive for the Chargers, the quarterback threw a long pass down field and Glasgow intercepted the ball and ran it back, but the score didn’t count.

The MIdway Chargers had seen enough, and the game was called at halftime with the Strother Yellowjackets winning 54-0.

“It feels good to come out with a win,” stated Head Coach Mike Hedge.

“The guys worked hard, and I’m proud of their effort. Hopefully, we can build on this momentum and keep it going into the next game.”

Next up for the Strother Yellowjackets is an away game at Cordell on the 19th.

The next home game for the Yellowjackets is on the 26th against Keota. The game will start at 7 p.m.
