Strother Yellowjackets Fall to Crowder Thursday Night at Home
The Strother Yellowjackets hosted the Crowder Demons for their second home game of the season Thursday night. It wasn’t a good night for the Yellowjackets as Strother came up short in both games.
The Strother Lady Yellowjackets started the evening off, and the Crowder Lady Demons took the lead with Alexas Lizik scoring 9 points in the first. The Lady Yellowjackets were down by 5, heading into the second quarter.
The offense of Strother continued to struggle in the second frame as the Lady Demons extended their lead by 12 heading into the half.
The Lady Yellowjackets settled down and found their groove in the second half. Brooklyn Turner fought her three-point range and knocked down two treys to help Strother gain some momentum. The defense of the Lady Yellowjackets held the Lady Demons to 7 points scored in the frame.
Strother had closed the gap and was six points behind heading into the final frame.
The game was a tug of war on the score board as both teams traded points. Strother’s Turner scored the points for the Lady Yellowjackets in the final frame with 10 points (two from three-point range). But the Lady Demons held on to their lead and pulled out the win 47-40.
Leading the way for the Lady Yellowjackets was Brooklyn Turner with 22 points, four treys and was 2 of 4 from the free throw line.
Ludie Barett-Higgins had 13 points and was one of three from the line.
Next up was the Strother boys taking on the Crowder Demon boys.
The Demons fired up the visiting crowd with some three-point aerial shots in the first. The Yellowjackets could not make their shots count.
Crowder would score 8 three-point shots in the game. Four of them came in the first quarter.
Strother was facing a 5-point deficit heading into the second quarter.
Yellowjacket Dorian Morales knocked down a trey to fire up the home crowd, but Crowder stepped on the gas and went on an 18-11 run before the half.
The Yellowjackets continued to battle in the second half but struggled to find their rhythm in the game. The third quarter was a close matchup as neither team scored many points.
Strother was down by 13 points heading into the fourth quarter. Strother could not close the gap and fell at home with a final score of 30-47.
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets was Michael Kanard with 9 points and was three of four from the free throw line.
Braidan Teague and DeAngelo Fixico each had four point each.
Next up for the Yellowjackets is a away game at Konawa on the 15th.
The next home game is on the 16th against Meeker.
The game is set to start 4 p.m. with the JV starting first, followed by the Lady Yellowjackets at 6 p.m. and then the Yellowjacket boys.
