Strother Protect Home Court Tuesday Night Against Carney
The Strother Yellowjackets hosted the Carney Bulldogs for their second home game of the new year and dominated both games.
The Lady Yellowjackets started the evening off and had a battle on their hands in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs scored 13 points in the frame but the Lady Yellowjackets edged them by one point thanks to Brooklyn Turners three-point shooting.
The defense of the Lady Yellowjackets pressured Carney in the second and held them to 8 points scored as Strother continued to roll with shooting from Ludie Barett-Higgins and Turner hitting three more treys to go up by 10 at the break.
Strother’s defense continued to hold the Lady Bulldogs in the second half. The offense continued with their game plan and extended their lead to put the game out of reach.
The Lady Bulldogs were now facing a 33-point deficit heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Yellowjackets never took their foot off the gas and continued to attack on offense with 19 points scored in the final frame.
The Carney Lady Bulldogs had no answer and took a loss on the road with a final score of 68-31 Strother Lady Yellowjackets.
Leading the way for the Lady Yellowjackets was Brooklyn Turner with 26 points, five treys and was three of four from the free throw line.
Ludi Barett-Higgins had 12 points and was two of five from the line.
Olivia Speers had 11 points and was one of two from the line.
Next up was the Strother boys facing the Carney Bulldogs.
The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early lead in the first with some threepoint shooting from Peyton Moody Micheal Kanard.
The Bulldogs were behind by 6 points heading into the second quarter. Carney fired back and scored 14 points. Peyton Moody found his spot and scored 10 points from the field.
The Bulldogs closed the gap just a bit before the half but were still behind by five.
The Yellowjackets regrouped and dominated the third quarter. Moody and Kanard found their threepoint spot and the defense held the bulldogs to just 4 points in the frame.
The Bulldogs were now behind by 24 points heading into the final quarter.
The Bulldogs made a last attempt at a comeback rally with 18 points scored but the Yellowjackets stuck to their game plan and kept the game out of reach and cruised in for the win with a final score of 64-45.
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets was Peyton Moody with 27 points, two treys and was one of two from the free throw line.
Michael Kanard had 18 points and four treys.
Next up for Strother is Porum Basketball Tournament. The tournament was moved up a day because the inclement weather approaching. The tournament is now being played on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The next home game for the Yellowjackets is on the 30th of January against Varnum.
The game is set to start at 4:30 p.m. with JV followed by the Lady Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. followed by the boys.
