Some Seminole County Basketball Teams Seasons Have Ended
The OSSAA District and Regional basketball playoffs had some tough competition this past week and last weekend.
Many of our Seminole County schools have ended their basketball season and two teams are still fighting for it all.
In Class B-II District and Regionals:
The Butner Eagles and Lady Eagles faced Oklahoma School for the Deaf in district play. The Lady Eagles fell 9-44 and the Eagles lost 35-54 ending their season.
The New Lima Falcons faced Mill Creek in districts and fell short 57-63 but moved on and took on Graham-Dustin at regionals and won 73-39. The Falcons then faced the in-county Maud Tigers in a very close game but fell 64-65 as their season ended.
The Falconettes took on Mill Creek in districts and won 52-45. New Lima then faced McCurtain in regionals but fell 23-55. The Falconettes faced Schulter in the consolation bracket and won 49-30 and faced Mill Creek a second time and proved to be the better team again with a win of 30-28 to move on to Area playoffs. The Falconettes took on Hillsdale Christian and fell just short 46-56 and ended their season.
The Bowlegs Lady Bison started their district playoffs facing the Maud Lady Tigers and pulled out the win with a score of 51-48. Bowlegs then faced Schulter and won 52-42 to advance to regionals. The Lady Bison took on Asher but fell 24-67. The Lady Bison moved into the consolation bracket and faced Mill Creek but lost 35-48 which ended their season.
The Bowlegs Bison faced the Maud Tigers in districts but fell 63-69 but still moved on and faced Oklahoma School for the Deaf in regionals and won 69-55. The Bison now played McCurtain and dominated with a score of 66-38. Bowlegs had to play Maud a second time to advance to Area. Bowlegs fell again 46-64 and their basketball season ended.
The Maud Lady Tigers faced Bowlegs Lady Bison in districts but fell just short 48-51. That ended their basketball season. The Maud Tigers faced Schulter in districts and dominated the game 63-28 and then faced the Bowlegs Bison and moved on to regionals with a 69-63 win. Maud took on Asher in their first round of regionals but fell 35-66. Maud took on the in-county New Lima Falcons and pulled out the win 65-64. Maud played another in-county Bowlegs team and won 64-46 to move on to Area. Maud faced Braggs Thursday but fell 41-47 that ended their season.
In Class B-I District and Regionals:
The Strother Lady Yellowjackets faced Gans in districts and won 56-40and moved on to face LeFlore next. The Lady Yellowjackets took care of LeFlore and moved on to Regionals with a final score of 50-32. Strother took on Red Oak in their first round but fell 27-71. The Lady Jackets faced Keota next and won 55-37 and had one more obstacle to get past and make it to Area and that was Indianola. Strother fell in the battle 28-40. The Lady Jackets season was over.
The Strother Yellowjacket boys started districts facing Gans and dominated the game 75-30 to advance to regionals. Strother faced Cameron at regionals and fell 47-60. Strother moved on the face Cave Springs in the consolation bracket and won 59-28. Strother needed to beat Keota next to advance to Area and they did that with a final score of 77-40. Thursday, Strother faced Wilson in their first round of Area playoffs and fell in a tough battle 47-58. Yellowjackets season is over.
The Sasakwa Lady Vikings started their district facing Thackerville and won 53-43 and moved on to face Ryan but fell 41-48. The Lady Vikings took on Sentinel in regional play and won 66-47. The Lady Vikings next game was against Fort Cobb, but the Lady Vikings fell 24-50. Their season is over.
The Sasakwa Viking boys started their district facing Ryan and dominated the game and advanced to regionals with a score of 84-32. The Vikings faced Sentinel next and fell 47-64. Sasakwa moved on in the consolation bracket and took on Granfield and won 78-43. The Vikings needed to win one more game to advance to Area and that was Mt. View-Gotebo. The Vikings took care of business and won 96-69 to advance. The Vikings took on Stringtown in their first round of Area and won 60-36 and faced Ft. Cobb Friday. The Vikings fought hard but fell 48-76. The Vikings season is over.
The Varnum Lady Whippets started their district facing Wetumka and dominated the game 73-13 to win and move on to face Union City in regionals. The Lady Whippets fought down to the wire and won 38-37. Varnum took on Crowder to advance to Area with a win. The Lady Whippets won 59-30 to advance. Varnum faced Kiowa in Area playoffs and fell 16-53. The Lady Whippets needed another win to advance to state but fell to Whitesboro with a final score of 30-42.
In Class 2A District
and Regionals:
The Konawa Lady Tigers took on Vanoss in their district game and fell 18-76 then faced Wynnewood at regional playoffs in the consolation bracket. The Lady Tigers fell 32-65 and that ended their season.
The Konawa Tigers also took on Vanoss at district but fell 30-82. The Tigers then faced Dibble at regionals and fell in a close match 62-69 to end their season.
The Wewoka Lady Tigers took on Warner for their district game and fell 30-52. The Lady Tigers faced Coalgate in regional consolation playoffs and won 58-46. The Lady Tigers moved on to face Tushka next on Friday but fell 27-52. The loss ended their season.
In Class 4A District and Regionals
The Seminole Lady Chieftains faced North Rock Creek to start their district and fell 27-54 but the Lady Chieftains moved on to take on Central Tulsa Thursday and won in a landslide 60-6 victory. The Lady Chieftains then faced Cleveland on Friday but fell short 42-62. The Lady Chieftain season is over.
The Seminole Chieftains also faced North Rock Creek to start their district playoff but fell 30-75. The Chieftains moved on to face Mannford at regionals and won a very close match 56-54. The Chieftains moved on to take on Bristow in another close game but fell 67-70. Chieftain season is over.
Remaining Seminole County teams In Class B-I, the Varnum Whippet boys defeated their opponents and have earned their way to State. The Whippets will play this Thursday against Glencoe at the new OG&E Coliseum at 6 p.m.
In Class 2A, the Wewoka Tiger boys have earned their way to Area playoffs and will play Colcord this Thursday at Checotah at 2:30 p.m.
