Six College Football Games to Keep an Eye on in Week 15
SOONER WIRE - We’ve reached conference championship weekend for the 2025 college football season, and after Rivalry Week gave us even more unforgettable moments this fall, it’s time for the teams that made it to Week 15 to put the finishing touches on their years before bowl season hits.
Here’s six games to keep your eyes on this weekend, each with significant impact on the College Football Playoff. The final rankings will be released on Sunday, and we’ll know which teams made the bracket, and which teams got left out.
Our focus during the action will be on what needs to happen for the Oklahoma Sooners to not only get into the CFP, but more likely, what needs to happen for them to host a game in the first round of the playoff.
However, we’ve got some great matchups and some hardware up for grabs, with conference championships up for grabs this weekend.
Here are six games to watch for during Week 15 1. Georgia vs. Alabama, Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT
It’s a rematch between the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide, as the two programs that have run things in the SEC for the past few seasons collide again in Atlanta, Georgia for the SEC Championship Game. Georgia lost at home 24-21 back in Week 5, which has served as their only loss of the season. Kirby Smart and the ‘Dawgs can win SEC title number three in the last four years and secure a first-round CFP bye.
Alabama wants to continue their recent dominance in this matchup.
For Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide, would certainly like to have a little more certainty on Selection Sunday, and they’d see a big jump in the rankings if they can win the game. The Tide are as dangerous as anyone in the playoff field right now.
2. Indiana vs. Ohio State, Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT
Indiana and Ohio State are the only FBS teams that are left undefeated in 2025, and they’ll clash in the Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis, Indiana with the top seed in the CFP on the line. The Hoosiers passed their only test of the season against Oregon back in Week 5, and Curt Cignetti’s team showed that last year wasn’t a fluke by coming back even better this season.
The Buckeyes have only been tested by Texas and Michigan this year, but they won both games, and they looked like the best team in the country a week ago. Ryan Day’s squad is as talented as they come, and they’re in good position to repeat as national champs. This will be the biggest test of the season so far for both teams.
3. BYU vs. Texas Tech, Saturday at 11:00 a.m. CT
The Cougars and the Red Raiders have both had excellent seasons on their way to Arlington, Texas for the Big 12 Championship Game. In a wide-open Big 12, these two teams proved they were at the top of the heap all season. BYU is looking for revenge after a 29-7 loss on the road back in Week 11, and Kalani Sitake’s team wants to be a bidstealer and pull the upset to knock someone else out of the CFP.
Texas Tech also has just one loss, and they’ve looked really good down the stretch of this season. Joey McGuire’s team is in play for a first-round bye, but if they don’t get inside the top four, they’ll likely get a comfortable matchup in the first round if they win this game.
4. Duke vs. Virginia, Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT
Did anyone had this matchup coming in the ACC Championship Game? Duke and Virginia will face off in Charlotte, North Carolina in an unlikely pairing for the league title. Manny Diaz’s Blue Devils won a series of tiebreakers to get here, but at 7-5 overall, they might not be one of the five highest-ranked conference champions if they win this game. That’s a nightmare scenario for the ACC.
Tony Elliot and the Cavaliers have a much simpler mission. If they win on Saturday night, they’re going to be in the CFP, likely as the No. 11 seed. It’s been a crazy, chaotic year in the ACC, so does it take one more unexpected turn, or does sanity finally prevail in the league title game?
5. North Texas at Tulane, Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT
It really looks like the winner of the American Championship Game between North Texas and Tulane will be heading to the playoff, as both teams have enjoyed standout seasons at the Group of Five level. Before Eric Morris heads off to coach Oklahoma State, he’ll try and get the Mean Green into the CFP by getting a win on the road. His stellar offense will certainly be put to the test.
The Green Wave are in a similar situation, as Jon Sumrall is about to be Florida’s head coach. First, he’d like to ride his solid defense to a home win and a berth in the CFP. Before all of the great action on Saturday, we’ll already have one automatic bid locked up on Friday night.
6. Troy at James Madison, Friday at 6:00 p.m. CT
The Sun Belt Championship Game between Troy and James Madison also has playoff implications. Gerad Parker and the Trojans can play the ultimate spoiler on the road, as they’re gunning for a big upset, along with that league title. Unfortunately, that would mean the Sun Belt has no shot of making the CFP.
On the other hand, the Dukes are heavy favorites at home, and they could sneak into the CFP with a win and a loss from Virginia. Before Bob Chesney leaves to be the head coach at UCLA, he’ll try and deliver a conference title to JMU on Friday night. It’s not a huge stretch to say that they could wind up on the CFP bracket if things fall their way in Week 15.
