Seminole State Trojans Wins Series Over Connor State Saturday
The Seminole State Trojan baseball team won the series over Connor State this weekend in a double header on Saturday.
The first game of the series was played on Thursday at Connor State. The Cowboys controlled the first game and won 14-4 to take the lead in the series.
The Cowboys traveled to Seminole for the next two games of the series on Saturday in a double header.
The Cowboys went to bat first and knocked in three runs at the top of the first inning. The Trojans went three and out in the bottom of the same frame.
Connor State could not add to their lead in the second and the Trojans took advantage. Seminole State’s Campbell Martin and Jaylon Humbles scored on a ground ball and WT Jones hit a homerun and knocks in runner Dylan Restine to take the lead in the game.
The Cowboys tied things up at the top of the third inning with a single run, but the Trojans regained the lead with a single run of their own by Humbles.
Neither team scored a run in the fourth inning.
Connor State once again tied the game up in the fifth inning and again SSC fired back to take the lead back with Will Lundquist scoring on a wild pitch and Humbles scored on a line drive.
The defense of Seminole State held the Cowboys scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings and won the game 7-5.
Leading for Seminole State was Jaylon Humbles with three runs.
WT Jones, Campbell Martin, Dylan Restine and Will Lundquist each scored a run.
Pitching for Seminole State was Matt Hudspeth who pitched five innings, allowing five runs, three walks and five strikeouts.
Jaxon Ramos pitched two innings, allowing zero runs, zero walks and one strikeout.
In the second game of the day, the Trojans took the early lead with a single run by Cohl McCoy after the Cowboys went three and out at the top of the first.
Connor State scored the tying run at the top of the second, but the Trojans fired back at the bottom of the inning with Brayden Harpole knocking in a homerun, McCoy and Humbles scored on a line drive and WT Jones scored on a ground ball.
The Cowboys managed to add another run at the top of the third to make it 2-5 Seminole State.
The Trojans struggled on offense in the third and fourth innings.
Seminole State lit up the scoreboard again at the bottom of the fifth with Bennett Crafton scoring on a ground ball. The Trojans kept the Cowboys scoreless through four innings until the eighth inning when Connor State scored a single run but could not rallied back.
Seminole State won the game 6-3 and the series.
Leading for the Trojans was Cohl McCoy with two runs.
WT Jones, Bennett Crafton, Brayden Harpole and Jaylon Humbles each scored a run in the game.
Pitching for the Trojans was Ryder Taylor who pitched five innings, allowing two runs, three walks and had five strikeouts.
Nate Quickstad pitched two innings, allowing one run, one walk and struck out three.
Next up for Seminole State is an away game at Western Oklahoma State College today.
The next home game for SSC is this Saturday against Rose State College in a double header.
The games against Rose State will be a series of three games with the first game played at Rose State on Thursday the 26th at 2 p.m.
The first home game at Seminole is set to start at 1 p.m. and the second at 3 p.m.
