Seminole State Soccer Season Comes to a Close at Nationals
The Seminole State College Soccer Team traveled to Enid for their seventh straight National Tournament
appearance.
The Lady Trojans entered the tournament with 13 straight wins with 11 shutouts on the season.
Seminole State faced the 10-4-2 Laramie County Community College Lady Eagles on Sunday the 16th.
It was a tough battle for both teams with no score in the first half. At the 63-minute mark, SSC Gracie Lee scored an unassisted goal to put the Lady Trojans on the board. It so happened that it was enough to win the game as Seminole State held the Lady Eagles scoreless.
Seminole State’s Bry Russell was the goalie for the game.
In the second round of the tournament, SSC faced the 14-2-4 Navarro College Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday the 18th.
The match was scoreless
in the first half as the defenses from both teams played strong. With less than 10 minutes left in the game, SSC’s Mary Awuah scored a goal who was assisted by Fredricka Finninkin. The Lady Trojans were not finished yet as they scored another goal by Katelyn Magee with less than five minutes to play. Magee was assisted by Leslie Razo.
Seminole State had won 2-0 over Navarro.
The goalie for the game was Bry Russell for the full 90 minutes.
The Lady Trojans advanced to the Semi-Finals Thursday the 20th to take on the 15-1-0 Arizona Western College Lady Matadors.
It was another tough fight for Seminole State as both teams tried to get an edge wise on a lead in the first half. The game was tied 0-0 heading into the second. The game closed in on 15-minutes before the end of regulation.
With a little over eleven minutes left in the game, Lady Matador Kei Yoneda scored a goal to put Arizona Western ahead. The Lady Trojans had a hard time pinpointing their shots and fell short of tying the game before the end of regulation.
The Arizona Western Lady Matadors won the match 1-0.
The goalie for Seminole State was the mighty Bry Russell. Russell played the full 90 minutes in each game of the Nationals.
In the first game against Laramie, Russell had 3 saves, in the second game against Navarro, Russell had 5 saves and in the semi-final game against Arizona Western, Russell had 5 saves.
Seminole State finishes the season with a record of 17-2-2 with an undefeated record at home.
