Seminole Lady Chieftains Get Home Win; Chieftains Fall Short
The Seminole Chieftains held their second home game of the season and hosted the Holdenville Wolverines. The girls pulled out a win and the boys fell just short of the win.
The Lady Chieftains started out slow in the first quarter of their game. The Lady Wolverines made most of their free throws and knocked down two treys to go on a 14-9 run.
The Lady Chieftains settled down and found their rhythm in the second and fired back with Ryeley Stanfield scoring six points and Jaxie Satawake scoring five to help Seminole take the lead at the half.
Holdenville was down by one point heading into the third quarter. Defenses from both teams stepped up their game in the frame. The Lady Wolverines tied the game up at 29 at the end of the third.
In the fourth quarter was some aerial display of three-point shooting from both sides. Holdenville’s D. Gamble knocked down a trey and Seminole’s Daisy Wood and Athena Harjo knocked down a three-point shot each to help the Lady Chieftains win a nail-biter.
The game went down to the wire. With 11 seconds to go, the Lady Chieftains were down by one. Seminole makes a basket to go up by one and fouled the Lady Wolverines on their next offensive drive. Holdenville shoots two from the free throw line but misses both.
The Seminole Lady Chieftains came away the win with a final score of 40-39.
Leading for the Lady Chieftains was Ryeley Stanfield and Jaxie Satawake with 10 points each.
Next up was the Chieftains boys to take on the Holdenville Wolverines.
Seminole took off from the jump. Chieftain Christian Brager scored 13 points in the frame to help Seminole go on a 19-16 run to take the early lead.
The Wolverines stuck to their game plan and kept rolling and their defense held the Chieftains to 10 points scored in the quarter.
Daz Schatzel and Kenneth Johnson each hit a three-point shot in the quarter to keep the home crowd in the game.
The Chieftains were down by 3 points heading into the third quarter. Holdenville stepped on the gas in the frame and extended their lead by going on a 22-14 run and slowed down the Chieftain offense.
Seminole was down but not out. The Chieftains fired back and held the Wolverines to 11 points scored as the offense clawed their way back into the game with Carter Childs and Brager each hitting a threepoint shot to help close the gap. Time ran out for the Chieftains as the Holdenville Wolverines came away with the win with a final score of 65-61.
Leading the way for the Chieftains was Christian Brager with 22 points, one trey and was five of seven from the free throw line.
Jay Ladd had 19 points and was three of five from the line.
Next up for the Chieftains is a home game tonight against Prague. The games are set to start at 6 p.m.
Seminole also has another home game against Byng the following night on the 19th (Friday). Game time for this event also begins at 6 p.m.
