Seminole Chieftains Travel to Sulphur Tonight in Big Matchup

Posted in:

The Seminole Chieftains are 5-2 overall and 2-2 in district play after a thrilling 48-42 overtime win over the Mcloud Redskins last week. Next up, the Mean Green will look to pull a major up-set in Class 3A when Head Coach Mike Snyder’s team takes a trip down south to take on the Sulphur Bull-dogs.

Sulphur has been on a tear throughout the 2025 season, starting 7-0 and outscoring their opponents by a combined 311 to 95. Blowing teams out such as Bristow (52-14), Mcloud (60-0), and Lone Grove (53-21). The Chieftains have beaten all three of those opponents on the field as well, but the forfeit to Bristow has Seminole at 2-1 against those teams.

Last season, Sulphur travelled to Seminole and easily handled the Chieftains, 49-6. The Seminole offense struggled in that one, totaling 89 yards and just two rushing yards on 20 attempts. Returning senior wideout Jay Ladd scored the only touchdown in that 2024 matchup for the Chieftains and has totaled 12 touchdowns in 2025. So be on the lookout for Ladd to find the endzone against the highly ranked Bulldogs.

After the win at Chieftain Stadium, Sulphur would go on to finish the regular season 9-1 and acquire the one seed in the 2024 playoffs. They were absolutely dominant in their run to the state championship game, beating Kingfisher (66-0), Idabel (53-21), and Checotah (68-21). The Bulldogs would fall in a heartbreaking loss to Lincoln Christian, 28-27, taking home 2nd place in Class 3A for the 2024 season.

The all-time series between the Chieftains and Bulldogs is tight, with Seminole holding a 12-10 advantage. The two teams first met all the way back in 1948, a game the Mean Green won 33-0. Recently, Sulphur has gotten the best of Seminole, winning five out of the last six, including the 2002 state championship game.

Here is what Head Coach Mike Snyder had to say on the Bulldogs ahead of these two teams’ 23rd meeting all-time. “Hopefully, we get healed up a little bit, and they are a number one, number two team for a rea-son. So, it’ll be a tough battle.”

Snyder’s squad will look to send shockwaves through Oklahoma high school football when the #12 Seminole Chieftains head down south to battle the #3 Sulphur Bulldogs (tonight) on Thursday, October 24th. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.

The Friday night games scheduled have been moved to Thursday night games due to the weather coming on Friday.

Other game scheduled for Thursday include Maud vs Maysville, Sasakwa vs Gra-ham/Dustin, Wewoka at Talihina, and Bowlegs at Midway.

Konawa vs Ringling is scheduled for Friday.
