On Friday, Sept. 26, the Seminole Chieftains will host the Lone Grove Longhorn in the first district matchup of 2025, as well as celebrate the school’s homecoming. The Chieftains head into this first district matchup undefeated at 3-0 with wins over Checotah, Tecumseh, and Harrah, and will look to gain an early edge in the Class 3A playoff race.

The Longhorns enter this game holding a record of 1-2, dropping their first two contests of 2025 (35-36 at Anadarko and 6-19 vs. Plainview) before picking up their first win in dominating fashion against Chandler, 42-13. Last season, when these two foes met, it was the Chieftains picking up a blowout win on the road over Lone Grove. It was a 42-13 win that saw the Seminole offense put up 500 total yards and the defense forcing three turnovers. Returning Senior Jay Ladd totaled 207 receiving yards and four touchdowns the last time out. So far in 2025, he leads the Chieftains in receiving, so be on the lookout for another big game catching the ball from Ladd.

After the loss to Seminole, Lone Grove started the 2024 season 0-6 before ultimately finishing 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the district to miss the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.

Head Coach Mike Snyder’s thoughts before his team’s homecoming battle with the Longhorn, “It’s a district game so it becomes really more important. We have some injuries that we have to take care of. Hopefully, everyone will be healthy.” Snyder’s Chieftains have a long history of success when playing against Lone Grove, holding an 11-1 record and beating the Longhorn by an average score of 34.3 to 14.2. The newest edition of this matchup on Friday, September 26th, will see Seminole (ranked #13 in Class 3A) try to snatch the homecoming win over Lone Grove (ranked #16 in Class 3A). Game time is set for 7:30 PM.

Other Friday night action includes Sasakwa VS Bowlegs (Sasakwa homecoming), Konawa VS Wilson, Strother VS Keota, Maud AT Paoli, and Wewoka AT Central Sallisaw. All of these games are set for 7:00 PM.
