Sasakwa Vikings Win on the Road at Butner Friday Night

The Butner Eagles hosted the Sasakwa Vikings Friday night for their third home basketball game of the season. Butner fell in both the boys’ and the girls’ game but had fun with the experience of the outcome.

The Lady Eagles and Lady Vikings took to the court first. The Sasakwa Lady Vikings jumped out to an early lead and shutout the Lady Eagles 20-0 in the first quarter. Sasakwa’s K.K. Wheeler scored 10 points in the frame.

Sasakwa continued with their game plan in the second and Butner’s Raven Songer lit up the score board for the Lady Eagles with two points scored. Sasakwa’s Addy Odom found her three-point range and knocked down three treys in the quarter.

The Lady Eagles were in a 30-point deficit heading into the third quarter. The Lady Vikings settled down and was held to 9 points scored. The Lady Eagles added to their score with Honesty Wolf scoring a basket in the quarter.

Sasakwa went back to work on offense in the fourth and made their shots count. Butner’s Layla Riggin scored the Lady Eagles’ only point in the frame.

The Sasakwa Lady Vikings dominated the game with a final score of 58-6.

Leading for Sasakwa was Addy Odom with 18 points, five treys and was one for one from the free throw line.

K.K. Wheeler and Chasity Thomas each scored 11 points.

On the Butner Lady Eagles team, Raven Songer, Honesty Wolf and Layla Riggin each scored a basket on the evening.

The Butner and Sasakwa boys were next to hit the court.

The first quarter was a big aerial display of some three-point shooting from both teams. Butner Eagles Rogue Bethany and Seth Caviness each knocked down a trey in the first while the Vikings Boston Lowe knocked down three treys and Trenton Mack scored a three-point of his own to help the Vikings go on a 18-11 run.

The Vikings stepped on the gas in the second with more three-point shooting and Josh Jones scoring 12 points to help Sasakwa go on a 30-12 run before the half.

The Sasakwa defense stepped up their game in the third and held the Eagles to 2 points in the quarter while the offense continued to roll.

The Vikings extended their lead by 40 points heading into the final quarter. Each team eventually put in their second string to finish out the game. Butner Eagle Cory Butler scored a long three-point shot and the crowd from both sides cheered him on throughout his time on the court. Rhyne Bethany scored five points with one shot being a three-point shot to fire up the crowd.

As the time ran out on the game, the Eagles fell but not without having fun with their time on the court.

The Sasakwa Vikings won 71-36.

Leading the way for the Vikings was Sherman Mitchell with 18 points and was four of six from the line.

Josh Jones had 14 points, two treys and was 2 of 3 from the line.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Rogue Bethany with 13 points and one trey.

Rhyne Bethany had 12 points, one trey and was 3 of 4 from the line.

Next up for the Butner Eagles is a home game on the 5th of January against Dewar. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.

Next up for the Sasakwa Vikings is an away game at Moss on the 16th. The next home game is on the 19th against Springer. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
