Sasakwa Vikings Win at Graham-Dustin Basketball Tournament

The Sasakwa Vikings traveled to Graham-Dustin this past weekend for the Graham-Dustin Riverhawk Basketball Classic. The Vikings won the Championship, and the Lady Vikings took Third Place.

The eight-school roster for the tournament consisted of Graham-Dustin, Mason, Maud, Midway, Porum, Sasakwa and Schulter.

The Maud Lady Tigers faced the Schulter Lady Bulldogs on Thursday and just fell short of the win in a very close battle 30-39. The Lady Tigers did not play on Friday and moved to the consolation championship game against the Mason Lady Eagles on Saturday. The Lady Tigers could not find their rhythm and fell 17-57 to Mason.

The Maud Tigers faced the Schulter Bulldogs on Thursday for their first round of the tournament. The Tigers took control of the game and never looked back. Maud won the battle 54-30. The Tigers faced the Sasakwa Vikings Friday for their next round of the tournament. The Tigers fought tooth and nail but fell short of the win. Sasakawa won the match 58-21. Maud took on the Quinton Savages for the Third Place Championship on Saturday. The game was a hard tough fought battle with the Savages just edging out the Tigers 50-46.

The Sasakwa Lady Vikings faced the Mason Lady Eagles to start their tournament on Thursday. The Lady Vikings controlled the game and won with a final score of 58-26. On Friday, the Lady Vikings faced the Porum Lady Panthers. The Lady Vikings struggled on offense in the game and fell 27-75. Sasakwa now faced the Schulter Lady Bulldogs for Third Place Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs were no match for Sasakwa as the Lady Vikings cruised in for the win with a final score of 61-20 to win the Third Place Championship.

The Sasakwa Vikings boys started their tournament off facing the Graham- Dustin Riverhawks on Thursday. The Vikings dominated the game from the jump and won 83-24. The Vikings moved on to face the Maud Tigers in the next round. The Vikings again controlled the game and won 58-21 on Friday.

The #13 Sasakwa Vikings were pitted against the #17 Porum Panthers on Saturday for the Championship.

The Vikings took the lead in the first with Boston Lowe knocking down two treys and Josh Jones hitting a trey to help the Vikings go on a 21-16 run in the frame. The defense of the Vikings stepped up in the second and held the Panthers to 11 points scored as the offense continued to roll with an aerial display of some threepoint shooting by Ayden Livesay, Lowe and Jones.

The Vikings had an 18-point lead heading into the third quarter. Sasakwa eased off the gas on offense but still dominated on defense only allowing the Panthers to score 7 points in the third.

The Panthers had a huge deficit to tackle in the final quarter. Porum never gave up and rallied 17 points but could not catch the Vikings as the Sasakwa Vikings strolled in for the win and won the Championship 63-51.

Leading the way for the Vikings was Josh Jones with 22 points, four treys and was six of seven from the free throw line.

Boston Lowe had 13 points, three treys and was two of four from the line.

Next up for the Vikings is an away game at Stratford on the 15th.

The next home game is on the 17th against Hominy. The game is set to start at 2 p.m.

Next up for the Maud Tigers is a home game on the 16th against Dewar. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
