The Sasakwa Vikings had a very special night Friday night as they had a dedication of their basketball court and took on the Weleetka Outlaws.

The Vikings had a very special court dedication as Sasakwa honored the hometown great Virgil Franks by naming the court after him during the girl’s game at halftime.

Virgil Franks was a member of the ‘72 and ‘73 Sasakwa Viking Boys Basketball State Championship Teams. He held Oklahoma Basketball State records for many years and was voted MVP. He also received the Jim Thorpe Award.

The Sasakwa Lady Vikings were ready to play from the jump. Jayla Underwood found her three-point range and knocked down two treys to help the Lady Vikings go on a 17-8 run in the first.

The Lady Vikings found the basket easier in the second as the defense suffocated the Lady Outlaws to just three points scored in the frame. Sasakwa headed into the half with a 25-point lead.

The Lady Outlaws had a hard time on offense in the third quarter but put up nine points to keep the team alive. The Lady Vikings continued to roll but slowed down at the end of the quarter.

The Lady Outlaws were down by 28 points heading into the final frame. Weleetka tried to rally back but could not catch the lead of the Vikings.

The Lady Vikings won the game 55-37.

Leading for Sasakwa was Lacee Thomas with 15 points, one trey and was two of five from the free throw line.

Jayla Underwood scored 10 points and had two three-point shots (treys).

Next up was the Vikings and the Outlaws.

The Vikings were ready to protect their home court Friday, and it showed. Sasakwa ran away with a 28-5 run in the first with Josh Jones scoring eight points and Micah Wheeler scoring six points in the frame.

The second quarter didn’t go any better for the Outlaws as the Vikings continued with their momentum and extended their lead with some threepoint shooting to put the Outlaws in a 43-point deficit at the half. The Vikings hit five treys in the second with Ayden Lively, Boston Lowe, Fayve Mack and Josh Jones.

The Outlaws had no answer in the third and continued to struggle on offense. Sasakwa continued where they left off in the first half and pushed their lead further and put it out of reach for Weleetka.

The Vikings finally let off the gas and sailed in for the win with a final score of 85-35.

Leading the way for Sasakwa was Josh Jones with 13 points and three treys.

Boston Lowe scored 11 points and had three treys.

Next up for the Vikings is an away game at Bowlegs tonight. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.

The next home game is this Thursday against Earlsboro. This game is set to start at 6 p.m. also.
