Sasakwa Vikings Football Season Comes to an End Friday Night
The Sasakwa Vikings made it to the Quarterfinals of the OSSAA Football Playoffs and hosted the defending champions the Tipton Tigers Friday night.
The Vikings started the night off first on offense. It took a few plays to march down the field, but quarterback Thad Harjo connected with wide receiver Titan Collins at the 15-yard line and Collins broke free after the catch and ran the ball in for the touchdown. The Vikings went for the field goal, but the ball was blocked.
The Tigers roared back on their offensive drive and scored 8 points to take the lead in the first.
The ground game didn’t to well for the Vikings in the second quarter as the Vikings went scoreless in the frame.
Tipton continued to frustrate Sasakwa on offense and scored two touchdowns before the half.
The Vikings were down by 16 points to start the third quarter.
Sasakwa was showing some offensive flare throughout the game but was plagued by penalties.
Sasakwa could not slow down the offensive pressure of the Tigers as Tipton scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter.
In the final frame, neither could light up the score board. The Vikings season had come to an end. The Tipton Tigers won 36-6.
“This football season for my Sasakwa Vikings has been nothing less than amazing,” stated Head Coach Corky Snodgrass.
“We came up short against the defending state champions. Our boys gave it all they had and left it on the field. This team made school history and set a standard of what’s to come for Vikings football for the next few years.
I am beyond thankful and grateful for my coaching staff, our school, the community, and everyone that supported us.” – Coach Snodgrass.
Sasakwa finished the season 10-2 with four shutouts, 1st District Championship in school history, 1st team to reach 10 wins and outscored District opponents 300-12.
“See ya next season.” – Coach Snodgrass.
