Oklahoma Bedlam Basketball is Set for a Showdown This Season

Posted in:

ESPN - Bedlam basketball is back on both sides of the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams.

Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will play each other in women’s basketball this season in a neutral site game at the Paycom Center on Dec. 13, sources tell GoPokes. The Norman Transcript first reported Wednesday that the game was happening. The game is expected to be part of a doubleheader with the two men’s programs, which has already been announced.

Fans can attend both games with a single ticket.

The Oklahoma State and Oklahoma men’s programs have met 250 times, including at least once every season since 1927-28.

Last season, head coach Porter Moser and the OU men’s team defeated Oklahoma State 80-65 at Paycom Center on Dec. 14. The Sooners lead the alltime men’s series 144-106 and have won the last three meetings.

The two programs didn’t play last season after Oklahoma’s move to the SEC sidelined the rivalry. Prior to last season, the Cowgirls and Sooners have played each other at least twice a year since the 1974-75 season.

The OU women’s program holds a 69-47 Bedlam series advantage and has won six straight against the Cowgirls under head coach Jennie Baranczyk, including a 91-56 game in Norman.

Oklahoma State head coach Jacie Hoyt has yet to defeat Oklahoma but has seen her team’s trajectory rise over her three years at the helm. Last season, the Cowgirls made the NCAA Tournament as a 7-seed after compiling one of the best regular seasons in program history.

The Cowgirls return All-Big 12 First Team point guard Stailee Heard, All-Big 12 Freshman Team point guard Jadyn Wooten and brought in one of the best tarsnfer portal classes this offseason.

The Sooners, led by Jennie Baranczyk, reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013 last season.

Hoyt spoke about the success in both Oklahoma programs after they both made the NCAA Tournament in March.

“It’s amazing,” Hoyt said. “To get to have so much talent and get the fans in the stands that I think both of our fans have brought has been incredible. I know that’s a real passion of both of ours and she’s done an amazing job with that. I’m really proud of the trajectory of our fanbase and how it’s gone this season and will continue to go. We definitely want to continue on that track.”

The Cowgirls are set to revive a half-century-old rivalry with the Sooners following a one-year hiatus. Both teams were nationally ranked and earned NCAA Tournament bids in 2025.

The only other games that have been revealed for Oklahoma State’s 202526 campaign are the ones being played in the 2025 Cayman Islands Classic, alongside Charlotte, Florida, George Washington, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Miami and St. Johns. The tournament is set for Nov. 28-29 at John Gray Gymnasium in George Town, Grand Cayman.

General public tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster on Friday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. CT.
