Local High Schools Compete at the Konawa Fastpitch Invitational

Konawa was the site for the Konawa Lady Tiger Fastpitch Invitational this past weekend.

The Maud Lady Tigers, Varnum Lady Whippets and Konawa Lady Tigers competed as well as eight other in-state high schools in the tournament.

The Maud Lady Tigers started their tournament off by facing the Earlsboro Lady Wildcats Thursday morning. The Lady Tigers took the early lead at the top of the first inning with a 3-0 score, but the Lady Wildcats fired back and won the game 12-4 after five innings. The Lady Tigers moved on to face the Varnum Lady Whippets Friday morning. Varnum proved to be too much, and Maud fell 0-5 after four innings.

The Varnum Lady Whippets faced the Wynnewood Lady (?) Thursday to start their tournament. Varnum pitcher Kapri Rodriguez struck out eight batters in a 5-0 shutout victory. Varnum took on the Asher Lady (Indians) Thursday afternoon in a tough battle and just fell short with a 0-1 score.

Varnum moved on to face the Maud Lady Tigers Friday morning. The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but Varnum took control of the game in the fourth and won the game 5-0. The Lady Whippets moved on to face the Bristow Lady Pirates Friday afternoon. Bristow had the lead in the second inning with a 2-1 score. Varnum tied it up in the fourth. The Lady Pirates scored two runs in the fifth to Varnum’s one. Varnum fell to Bristow 3-4.

The Konawa Lady Tigers took on the Earlsboro Lady Wildcats Thursday night in the last game of the evening. The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning and then both teams went scoreless for the next two innings as both defenses stepped up their pressure. Earlsboro scored a single run at the top of the fourth. The Lady Tigers took the lead with Shaylynn Gum and M Tafoya scoring runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Lady Wildcats tied the game back up at the top of the fifth, but Lady Tiger Bridgett Arms scored on a line drive to seal the win for Konawa.

The Lady Tigers moved on to face the Little Axe Lady Indians Friday afternoon. Konawa pitcher Jayden Coats posted nine strikeouts in the game, but the Lady Indians pulled out the win 3-1.

Konawa moved on to face the Bristow Lady Pirates Saturday morning. The Lady Tigers took a commanding lead in the third to go up 5-1 but the Lady Pirates fought back and closed the gap in the fifth inning, but it wasn’t enough. Konawa held on to win 5-4.

Konawa took on the Asher Lady Indians Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers fought an uphill battle through the first four innings, keeping it close then took the lead at the top of the sixth with three runs scored. Konawa was up 11-8 before the Lady Indians went to bat at the bottom of the inning. Asher was down 10-11 at the bottom of the inning but an error scored two runs for the Lady Indians. Asher won 12-11.
