The Champion Athletics hosted the “I Am 3rd Gymnastics Meet” on Dec. 6, in Ada, bringing together teams from across the state for a day filled with talent, teamwork, and purpose.

This meet wasn’t just about gymnastics. It was built around the message of God 1st, Others 2nd, and “I Am 3rd.”

Emilie Barkhimer of Wewoka was the top finisher in her division.

Her results were: Vault 1st, Bars 2nd, Floor 1st, Floor 1st and Xcel Bronze All Around Champion with a score of 37.6. National Qualifier and highest-scoring Xcel Bronze gymnast in all divisions.

“We want every child who walks through those doors to know that their value goes far beyond a medal,” said Coach Karrie Flanagan. “This meet is about serving others, lifting one another up, and using our platform to make a real difference.”

By simply participating, every gymnast played a role in helping others. A portion of the meet’s proceeds was dedicated to the Morris Memorial Baptist Church Food Distribution Program, helping provide essential food items to families in need within our community.

Families also stepped up in a big way, donating more than 400 food items through a meet-wide food drive for the MMBC Food Pantry.

“Seeing our gym families and visiting teams donate so generously was one of the highlights of the entire day,” Flanagan added. “That’s what the ‘I Am 3rd’ mission is all about.”

On the competition floor, Champion gymnasts delivered an outstanding performance, earning 118 topthree finishes-including 46 first-place, 28 second place, and 44 third-place awardsalong with nine All-Around Champions!

Beyond the scores, however, the heart of the meet was celebrated through the “I Am 3rd Gymnast Award,” with two gymnasts selected from each session by the judges for exemplifying the true spirit of the event.

This special honor recognizes athletes who display exceptional character, lift up those around them, and demonstrate genuine sportsmanship and kindness.

Emilie Barkhimer is a student at New Lima and the top finisher on her division.
