Lady Whippets Defeats #10 Roff at Home
The Varnum Lady Whippets competed at the Stratford Tournament last weekend of the 23rd.
Varnum cruised through the competition with three shutouts but fell short in the Championship game.
The Lady Whippets faced Maysville to start their tournament and won 6-2. Next was Chickasha and Varnum won 1-0. Varnum then faced Pauls Valley and posted another shutout with a score of 6-0. The Lady Whippets then faced Stratford and scored their third shutout of the tournament with a score of 3-0.
The Lady Whippets made it to the Champions round and faced the McLoud Lady Redskins. Varnum struggled on offense and could not get on the board but put up good defense. The McLoud Lady Redskins won the Championship 2-0. The Varnum Lady Whippets won the Stratford Runner-Up Championship.
Next the Varnum Lady Whippets hosted the #10 Roff Lady Tigers and defeated Roff 3 to 1 in a tough showdown of ranked teams Friday night.
The Lady Whippets lit up the scoreboard first in the first inning when Karsyn Lowery scored on a ground ball by Emery Roberson. The Lady Tigers went three and out.
Defense from both sides stepped up throughout the three innings with neither team scoring a run.
The Lady Whippets added to their lead in the fifth inning when Kapri Rodriguez scored on a line drive by Riley Batchelor.
The Lady Tigers answered back with a single run scored in the sixth inning.
Varnum sealed the win with a score on a walk in the seventh. The Lady Tigers had one more chance to make a comeback but went three and out.
The Varnum Lady Whippets won the game 3-1.
Pitching for Varnum was Kapri Rodriguez who pitched seven innings allowing one run, 11 strikeouts and walking five.
Varnum is ranked #16 with a record of 9-4 this season.
Next up for Varnum is the Little River Conference Tournament in Shawnee on the 4th through the 6th.
