Konawa Tigers Host Elmore City for First Home Game
The Konawa Tigers had their first home game of the season Tuesday night as the Tigers hosted the Elmore City Badgers.
The Lady Tigers started the evening off on the wrong foot as the Lady Badgers hit four three-point shots in the first frame to help Elmore City go on a 22-2 run.
The Lady Tigers drove the ball to the basket several times but could not make their shots count. Lady Tiger Chloe Tebe knocked down a trey and a basket from the field to try and close the gap.
The Lady Badgers had a huge lead over the Lady Tigers heading into the third quarter.
The Lady Tigers regrouped and came out roaring from the break. Tebe found her three-point range spot and drained four treys to help Konawa go on a 14-12 run.
Konawa was down by 23 points heading into the final frame. The Lady Tigers continued with their momentum and closed the gap more by holding the Lady Badgers to four points scored in the quarter.
Konawa Lady Tiger Bridgett Arms knocked down two treys and Tebe hit another three-point to add to her collection, but the time ran out on the Lady Tigers and the Elmore City-Pernell Lady Badgers won 48-24.
Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Chloe Tebe with 20 points, six treys (3-point shots) and two points from the field.
Bridgett Arms had six points (2 treys).
The Konawa Tiger boys were next to take on the Elmore City Badgers.
The Tigers had a slow start to the game as the Badgers went on a 20-12 run in the first quarter.
The defense of the Tigers stepped up and caused several turnovers to hold the Badgers to 5 points scored in the second. Triston Lankford for the Tigers scored 6 points in the first and Tyler Whitley knocked down a trey to fire up the home crowd.
The Tigers had closed the gap by two points heading into the break.
The offense of the Konawa Tigers stepped up their game plan in the second half and pulled away from the Badgers.
Damien McCullar scored five points in the quarter with three points from a trey and Whitley knocking down a trey as well.
The game was 39-33 Konawa heading into the last quarter.
The Tigers continued to roll in the fourth totaling 19 points in the frame. The Badgers fought back and tried to close the gap, but the offense of the Tigers made their shots count and came away with the win.
The final score of the match was 58-49 Konawa Tigers.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Damien McCullar with 16 points, 2 treys and was two for two from the free throw line.
Triston Lankford had 14 points and was two for two from the line.
Tyler Whitley had 10 points with two treys on the evening.
Next up for the Tigers Is an away at Tupelo on the 12th.
The next home game Is on the 13th (Saturday) against Depew. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
