Konawa Tigers Have Back-to-Back Home Games
The Konawa Tigers took on the Stonewall Longhorns for their first game In February at home on Monday night.
The Lady Tigers had a very slow start to the game as the Lady Longhorns took the early lead with an 11-3 run in the first.
Konawa settled In In the second but could not slow down Stratford. Lady Tiger Dusty Westmoreland scored four points from the field and was two of six from the free throw line to help Konawa in the quarter.
The Lady Tigers were down by 17 points heading into the third quarter.
Konawa continued to battle in the third and closed the gap with their defense and adding 9 points to their score.
The visiting Lady Longhorns stuck to their offensive game plan in the final frame and pulled out the win with a final score of 54-25 Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Dusty Westmoreland with 10 points and was four of eight from the free throw line.
Kassidi Lowden scored 7 points and was one of two from the line.
The Longhorns and the Tigers were next to hit the court.
The game was a slugfest in the first with both teams trading scores. The Tigers took the lead with some great three-point shooting from Damien McCullar and Quentin Shaw.
The visiting Longhorns re-grouped and fired back in the second and took the lead before the half.
Stonewall had a threepoint lead heading into the third. The game resumed the hard-fought battle as the duo of McCullar and Messiah Osborne continued to find their three-point range.
Stonewall also found their three-point range and kept their lead heading into the final quarter.
The Tigers were now facing a six-point deficit and fought to close the gap, but the offense struggled, and time ran out on the Tigers.
The Stonewall Longhorns won 69-51.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Quentin Shaw with 15 points, two treys and was one of two from the free throw line.
Messiah Osborne scored 11 points and three treys.
Tuesday night, Konawa honored their three seniors, Damien McCullar, Dusty Westmoreland and Laila Wroolie before their games against Stratford.
The Lady Tigers took a hard hit in the first as the Lady Bulldogs held Konawa scoreless. The Lady Tigers were fighting an uphill battle in the second and lit up the scoreboard with Chloe Tebe and Kassidi Lowden finding their three-point range in the frame.
The Lady Tigers settled down after the break and traded punches with the Lady Bulldogs In the third but couldn’t close the gap. Lady Tiger Tebe knocked down two treys and Bliss Henson scored 6 points from the field.
The offense of the Lady Bulldogs kept rolling in the fourth quarter and rallied in for the win on a 10-6 run to win with a final score of 61-29.
Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Chloe Tebe with 12 points, all coming from three-point shots (4).
Bliss Henson scored 9 points and was one of one from the line.
The Konawa boys were next to take to the court.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead as the Tigers struggled on offense in the first quarter.
The Tigers fired back in the second and traded blows with the Bulldogs. Tegun Stalnaker knocked down two treys for a total of 10 points in the quarter as both teams scored 20 points apiece.
Konawa was still a little behind heading into the third. The defense of Stratford stepped up and held the Tigers to 7 points scored in the quarter.
Konawa made a final attempt to catch the Bulldogs In the fourth, but the time ran out while the Tigers were closing the gap.
The Konawa Tigers fell 52-66 to Stratford.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Tegun Stalnaker with 21 points and three treys.
Quetin Shaw scored 10 points and was two of three from the line.
The Konawa Tigers travel to Wewoka on the 17th for a Battle of the Tigers.
This game will be Wewoka’s Senior Night.
