Konawa Basketball Fall at Vanoss Thursday Night
The Konawa Tigers traveled to Wolf Country to take on Vanoss in their District Championship game Thursday evening.
Konawa lost on the road but are not out of the playoffs.
The Lady Tigers started the evening off first and fell behind with Vanoss shooting five of seven from the free throw line in the first to help them take the lead.
The Lady Tigers were down by eleven heading into the second and the Lady Wolves found their three-point range in the second with eleven treys while their defense held the Lady Tigers to two points scored.
Konawa was fighting an uphill battle heading into the second half.
Konawa’s Bridgett Arms knocked down a trey and a bucket from the field in the frame, but Vanoss stuck to their game plan and continued to extend their lead.
Konawa was down by 59 points going into the fourth quarter.
Things didn’t get much better on offense, but the Lady Tigers kept battling and scored 7 points in the quarter. The Lady Wolves let off the gas and eased in for the win with a final score of 76-18.
Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Bridgett Arms with 10 points and two three-point shots.
Kassidi Lowden and Bliss Henson each scored four points.
Next up was the Konawa Tigers boys and the Vanoss Wolves.
The Vanoss Wolves took control of the game early with six three-point shots made and several shots from the field to go on a 27-3 run in the first.
Konawa’s Tegun Stalnaker racked up seven points to help the Tigers stay in the game, but Kanon Bradley of Vanoss found his three-point range and knocked down four treys in the frame to keep the Wolves ahead in the game.
Konawa was looking at a 35-point deficit heading into the third quarter.
The defense of Vanoss applied more pressure in the third and held Konawa to just two points scored in the frame. Vanoss slowed things down on offense at the end of the quarter.
Konawa never gave up and continued to fight until the end, but the lead was too much for the Tigers and the Vanoss Wolves won the match with a finals core of 82-30.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Tegun Stalnaker with 18 points and was four of six from the free throw line.
Damien McCullar scored 8 points and one three-point shot.
The Tigers move to the Consolation bracket and will play Thursday at Vanoss.
The Lady Tigers will face Wynnewood on Thursday the 26th at 6 p.m.
The Tigers will face Dibble on Thursday the 26th at 7:30 p.m.
