Chieftains Prepare to Take on Perkins for Senior Night

Posted in:

The next edition of Friday night lights in Seminole will see the Chieftains host the Perkins-Tryon Demons on October 10th. After the OSSAA ruling of an ineligible player participating against Bristow last week, that 28-24 Chieftain won has since been forfeited. The newly acquired “loss” dropped Seminole to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in district play. The Chieftains will look to get back on track and pick up a muchneeded win against the Demons.

Perkins comes into the contest tied with Seminole in the district standings at 1-1 and holds a 3-2 overall record. The Demons have dominated in their wins (70-6 over Dewey, 70-18 over Webster, and 63-6 over Mannford); however, their two losses have been blowouts (12-38 at Cushing and 20-42 at Sulphur).

Last season, the Chieftains travelled to Perkins and were blown out themselves. A 52-8 loss that saw Seminole down 30-0 at halftime, the only time the Mean Green were shutout in the first half all season. Multiple key starters did not play in that game, including star returning senior Donavin Garfield.

Be on the lookout for the Seminole QB to make an impact after being sidelined last time out against the Demons.

After the win over the Chieftains, Perkins would finish the regular season 8-2 overall, 6-1 in district play, and second in the district. The Demons would then be upset in the first round of the 2024 playoffs by the three-seed Pauls Valley, 20-17.

These two foes are not really familiar with each other, having only met on the gridiron three times. The Chieftains lead the series 2-1, with wins in 2012 and 2013, and the lone loss coming last season.

Here is what Head Coach Mike Snyder had to say about his team’s next opponent, “They beat us pretty good last year, they are a really good football team. They are a playoff team as well, but we will get ready.”

Coach Snyder and the Chieftains will look to put the past week and the ruling in the rearview mirror when they take the field in week six. A battle will be had between two top-10 teams in Class 3A when the #10 Seminole Chieftains take on the #5 Perkins-Tryon Demons (rankings provided by Max-Preps) on Friday, October 10th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.

Other Friday night action from around the county includes Maud vs Bowlegs, Sasakwa vs Midway, Strother vs Thackerville, Konawa vs Elmore City-Pernell, and Wewoka at Allen. All of these game times are set for 7:00 PM.

Breaking News: Mike Snyder suspended from Friday night's Game.
