Remembering Who And What is Most Important
This season is not all about tinsel, Christmas trees, and parties. It’s about remembering Who is the reason for the season.
Have you ever really thought what it would be like if you didn’t believe in God and His Son, Jesus?
I was 19 before I had the opportunity to truly give my life to Jesus, to be baptized, and to take the teaching of the Bible seriously. I learned we are supposed to pattern our lives like Jesus did while He was on earth. The bottom line is to get our priorities straight by putting God first in EVERYTHING. I learned this keeps our lives balanced.
One of my former college students, Cheryl Lynne Lucas, is gifted in art, sculpture, and writing— especially short stories and poetry. The following are 2 poems that go especially well this Christmas.
CHRISTMAS He who made all things, laying aside His crown Taking off His glorious robes of power and light He, for the love of man came, wrapping Himself In Human skin. It was an awesome sight!
Angles fell silent while He stepped into a womb And I am sure never spoke a whisper Until Joseph and Mary found a room.
He cried as a baby, helpless, in need Of nurture and care He ran, and played with other children Growing pains were not spared.
He felt human emotion and temptation Yet without sin, He grew: A carpenter. A man.
All in the manifest dreams, and thoughts Of a loving Creator’s plan.
And all the horrific cruelty of the cross He endured Soon approached its time, As He continued thinking and praying Dreaming of your salvation, and mine.
He, stepping way down From the highest throne above Came, shed His blood, then rose again For one reason, once and for all...
HE DID IT FOR LOVE!!! LOVE IS CROWNED OUR KING By and by, love comes to us in the journey of life’s sea As we drift or swim and float along Searching to live free. Love comes in those we recognize— In those we just met Love finds our soul to engrave itself— And we will not forget. A glance, a word, a smile Or well-intended wish And by and by, we’re made whole— In the song of life’s sweet kiss.
And still the greatest love abides with us— Even when we travel alone And we should ever know this love— Accompanies us everywhere we roam. From dark and wrenching troubles Shadowed with despair To loves abundance all around— Still love is always there. So, we must realize Whatever life may bring We can choose to believe in love For love is crowned our King!
Note: Be thankful this Christmas for all the blessings we have, and share your blessings when you can.
