A Powerful King, a Powerful Dream, And You
One of the several instances in the Bible relates to us today, and that is in the book of Daniel, second and third chapters. It’s certainly worth reading.
The King at that time of Daniel was Nebuchadnezzar from 605-562 BC (before Christ.) He had a dream that none of the astrologers or mystics could interpret. A young Hebrew war hostage, Daniel, was also known to be wise, so he was approached to interpret the king’s dream. It would be a death sentence if he could not do it; however, he prayed to God to help him with this difficult task.
What made it difficult was that the king had forgotten what the dream was, and the interpreter had to ‘know’ what it was. Daniel was in fervent prayer and God revealed it to him.The dream would tell the king what would happen in the days to come—even up to the second coming of Christ!
First, Daniel told the king that the knowledge of future events could not be found in astrology or in the mystic arts….that there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. Then he began to outline the entire dream. It began with an enormous metal statue of a man. Each part of this statue represented the kingdoms of the world, in other words, world powers.
The first was a head of gold, representing Nebuchadnezzar’s magnificent kingdom of Babylon (Iraq today). He told the king Babylon would not last forever. The silver chest and arms would be defeated by the Medes and Persians (Iran today). It was in 539 BC.
Then, the next kingdom represented by bronze: the Macedonian-Greeks, would rule the whole earth. Under the strong leadership of Alexander the Great, they defeat the Persians in 331 BC. Next came the fourth kingdom, of iron, represented in the legs of the statue, was the Roman Empire. True to that dream, in 168 BC, the iron monarch of Rome ruled. it lasted the longest.
Then, strangely, something different happened. The feet and toes of the statue were made of partly baked clay and iron--which do not mix. This, Daniel said, will be a divided kingdom, and won’t remain as a united nation.
In the past we know that different military leaders, like Napoleon, the Kaiser and Hitler, attempted to unify all nations, but failed.
Today, our President works with world leaders to stop wars and to bring peace in our world, but, according to the Bible, this old prophecy described our world events as they really did happen. So what’s next?
At the feet and toes of the stature was a rock that would destroy the statute. What??? Then it was written that the rock represented Jesus in the Second Coming. He would destroy all nations and set up His eternal Kingdom. So, the world has always been in God’s hands. I orders world events, guiding the world towards it’s final destiny.
If nothing else touches you in the Bible, this should. How could this have been written so long ago to tell what was going to happen through the years. From all that is happening today with our physical world alone, we know this earth can’t last much longer. You need to get a Bible, if you don’t have one, to learn how to prepare for this inevitable event.
Since people are dismissing the teachings of right and wrong in the Bible and believing that they can live however they want. Some Bibles are being printed today that leaves out what is said to be sinful wrongdoing, so get a Bible that was published at least 15-20 years ago.
There is a Heaven. There is a Hell. If you want to go to Heaven, ask God for forgiveness of your sins, believe that His son, Jesus died on the cross for your sins, and rose again on the third day. As you read how Jesus lived (found in the New Testament) begin treating EVERYONE like you want to be treated, and begin making decisions in every part of your life in how you dress, what you eat, and how you talk, where you go, and how you treat people in general, that it is evident you are a Christian. You will slowly begin changing because you will want to. WWJD (What would Jesus do—and do it!) You’ll never be perfect. You’ll fail at times. Just get up and keep trying! Learn to pray: that’s talking to Jesus as a friend. No fancy language needed. God Bless!
