Op-ed in newspaper of Mar. 5, 2025 titled: Health Insurance Companies Shouldn’t Play Doctor First, my only relationship with the medical industry is as a patient and my only relationship with the medical insurance industry is as a premium payer.
There are a multitude of problems with health care and health insurance, but this Op-ed is misleading. Insurance companies do not dictate medical care, but they do control the money. The doctor can treat patients as the doctor wants, but the insurance company may not pay. The conflict is not about medical care, it is about money. The doctor wants to be paid for treatment that the insurance company is not willing to pay for.
