Letter to the Editor
This letter is about the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department.
My first bad experience with the Sheriff’s Department started in July 2024. I had a couple living in my home which I also occupy when I came back to Oklahoma every 3-4 weeks.
I did not receive any rent from them, the house was fully furnished, they occupied it in late November 2023, until they were evicted September of 2024.
The squatters were given notice to be out by June 1st 2024, that locks were going to be changed, but they remained in the home, when I returned from out of state.
At the court hearing to evict them, the judge asked how much time I should give them to move? I told the judge 72 hours, he said since there was a minor child involved, he would give them 30 days.
The granting of 30 days by the judge was a license to steal and trash the house. They got into my safe and took all the contents. The content of the safe was 2 rifles, 870 pump shotgun, 2 pistols. They took jewelry valued at over $6,000, my 32nd degree Masonic ring given to me by my ex-wife in 1971, earrings, and personal papers. They also cut the locks off my containers, stealing tools, rototiller, miscellaneous items.
On September 16th, I returned to my house that was trashed, garbage cans stolen, linen, sheets and pillows stolen, dirty dishes stacked to the top of the sink, floors dirty and destroyed personal paperwork that had been in my safe.
The squatters were never brought in for questioning. When I asked them why a warrant for their arrest had not been issued, I received many excuses. The DA said that they had not received the paperwork from the Sheriff’s department, so they could issue a warrant!
I called to speak to the sheriff twice, and never received a return call from him! I have called the captain of the detectives; he answered my calls a couple of times. He said he would take over the case himself. As of today, these thieves are still running free. The only one that took my phone call was the undersheriff. She spoke to the detective and that is when he called me.
There is just too much to write, but they know who did the stealing. Let’s get these individuals off the street and in jail.
