Local ESA Chapter Returns to Regular Meeting After Holidays

Posted in:

On Tuesday evening, March 3, the local chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) met for their monthly meeting after taking a short break for the holiday. They met in the Mirror room located at Seminole State College. Hostess for the month was chapter president Kelly Hankal with co-hostesses Nelda Robertson and Gloria Wheeler.

Present for the meeting were sorority sisters Nelda Robertson, Vicky White, Haley Coates, Gloria Wheeler, Ivona Watson, Kelly Hankal and Shirlene Davidson along with guest and future sister, Kaitlynn Attwood.

After reciting the opening ritual, president Kelly Hankal filled in for Chaplain Susan Gates who was not present at the beginning of the meeting and read a small informational sheet about focusing on self-care and how it is the hardest lesson for women to do. Self-care is not selfish would also serve as the educational for the evening’s meeting.

Not having grabbed the printed copy of December’s meeting from her printer prior to the meeting, Shirlene Davidson went over the roll call and it was decided by the group present to forego the reading of the minutes until the next meeting in April. However, it was discussed since the last two meetings were holidays for the sorority sisters, Christmas in December and Girls Night in February (no meeting in January) the meeting minutes were just recaps of the holiday parties.

Ivona Watson gave a quick update of the Treasurer’s report.

Under new business, Gloria Wheeler brought up discussions needed to be made with the SHS Alumni Association prior to next year’s football Homecoming. It was brought to her attention, the association is discussing hosting an event with free food and games directly outside the stadium prior to the game which would be detrimental to the annual Soup & Stew dinner fundraiser held by the sorority. All agreed contact needed to be made with the association to have them come and discuss their plans with the sorority.

Continuing on to old business, the question was raised about the status of the sorority’s T-shirts and where the purchase of said shirts was currently at. Kaitlynn believed the order form and all information pertaining to the purchase of said shirts was in the hands of Pam Robinson. As she was not present for the meeting, it was discussed that Kelly would reach out and find out the current status.

Moving on, Kelly opened up the discussion for next year’s officers since she had received an email from the district chapter needing the nominees as soon as possible. It was decided to put the following people up for officers: President, Pam Robinson; Vice president, Kelly Hankal; Treasurer, Kaitlynn Attwood (following her initiation into the sorority in April/ May); Secretary, Shirlene Davidson (officially); and Chaplain, Susan Gates.

Winding down and cleaning up the Mirror room, the sisters discussed plans for the next month’s meeting. It was suggested the meeting be held in Shawnee so dinner with longtime sister Barbara Tatum could join would be ideal. Haley Coates offered to be the chauffeur for anyone not wanting to drive themselves. All thought the suggestion was fantastic and Kelly would bring the suggestion to the hostess for the next meeting. She didn’t have to wait long as April’s hostess Susan Gates arrived late for the meeting but in enough time to say hello to everyone and share a quick bite of pizza and salad.
