Three local pet owners have a little extra spending cash in their pockets just in time for Christmas, thanks to their furry friends who were not bashful about dressing up and being put on parade.

On Tuesday night, Dec. 10, Carter Real Estate hosted “Santa Paws” at Snowman Wonderland, an event in which residents were encouraged to adorn their pets in costume and compete for cash prizes. Locals heeded the call and turned out in force with their fur babies in tow, all of which were decked out for the holidays.

A total of $400 in cash was handed out to the first, second and third place winners of the contest. Goats pulling a sled captured the first-place award of $250 and “Hootie,” a dog bespectacled in sunglasses came in second and was awarded $100. Third place ($50) was awarded to “Max and the Grinch” for their depiction of characters in the classic tale “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

Santa Paws doubled as a “food raiser” for the Seminole Animal Shelter, as guests were asked to bring a bag of dog or cat food to the event. For each bag donated, the donor was given a ticket for a drawing for a gift basket for their pet. The fundraiser was an over- whelming success, as over 400 pounds of pet food was donated.

Snowman Wonderland, a dazzling holiday light display, is held in Magnolia Park next to the Reynolds Wellness Center. Many local businesses and organizations host family friendly events. Next up is “Meet Santa,” sponsored by Oklahoma Liquified Gas. The event is slated for 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday, Dec. 17.
