Duane Givens

Graveside Service for Ross Duane Givens age 84, of Norman, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Mike Haverland, minister of the 13th & Josephine Church of Christ of Frederick officiating. Inurnment will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. A reception will follow the service at the 13th & Josephine Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. Mr. Givens passed away during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 18, 2019, at the Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma.

Duane was born May 9, 1935, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Ross and Golda (Schults) Givens. He graduated from Manitou High School. He later served in the United States Army from 1954 through 1956. After being discharged from the Army he moved to Seminole, Oklahoma where he farmed with his father and then had an oil field service truck for many years. He then moved to Oklahoma City and Moore and most recently resided in the Veterans Center Nursing Home in Norman, Oklahoma.

He was most happy when watching baseball and Sooner football. He spent a lot of time on the baseball field coaching and umpiring baseball all of which he loved. He is always described by family and friends as thoughtful, kind, caring and he loved to have a laugh. His greatest pleasure was being with his family.

He is survived by his children, Greg Givens of Norman, Oklahoma and Lynn Givens of Los Angeles, California; two grandchildren Paige Givens Talley and her husband Evan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Addison Givens of Norman, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Eva Jane Harris of Duncan, Oklahoma and Gayle Baker of Merkel, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Golda Givens; and infant brother, Leo Givens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans in memory of Duane Givens.
