Irby Resigns as Assistant DA
A longtime prosecutor for the Seminole County District Attorney’s Office has resigned in what some are calling a “shakeup.”
Assistant District Attorney Candice Irby resigned her position effective Monday, April 21. Although no official announcement has been made by District Attorney Erik Johnson’s Office, an anonymous source outside of the D.A.’s office said Johnson asked Irby to resign. The source added that the resignation may have been sparked by the addition of a member of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department to a “Giglio List,” a compilation of law enforcement personnel whose credibility or reliability as a witness has been called into question. The Producer plans to file an Open Records Act request with the United States Attorney’s Office (Eastern District of Oklahoma) to obtain the list.
The Producer reached out to Irby via voice and text message for comment yesterday, but as of press time, no reply had been received.
Irby was appointed to the position in May 2016 as a replacement for Trisha Smith, who was appointed special judge for Seminole County. She has been living in Oklahoma since 2000 and attended law school at Oklahoma City University.
Irby began practicing law in Oklahoma City in 2003, mainly handling bankruptcy and criminal defense cases. She and her family moved to Holdenville in 2006, where she started a practice with her husband, Trey. In 2011 she began working in the District Attorney’s office, which serves Hughes, Pontotoc and Seminole County.
